Improving road maintenance is one of Buckinghamshire County Council’s top priorities and in May 2011 the two-year road resurfacing programme branded ‘We’re Working On It' began.
The programme, driven by County Councillors' priorities, followed the announcement by Council Leader Martin Tett that the repair of Buckinghamshire’s roads would be a top priority. He announced a £25 million repair programme budget to be spent over a two year period and taken from 57 County Council Members' top five priorities, approximately 100 plane and patch sites picked by Local Area Technicians and 47 surface dressing schemes selected by the asset management team. Technical data was used to guide the Councillors decisions on road surfacing treatments and which roads were to be repaired. This budget has now been increased to a £30 million repair programme over the two year period.
Over the two years Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) expects to work on up to 285 schemes prioritised by Members.
Peter Hardy, Cabinet Member for Planning and Transport said: 'We have significantly increased the amount of money we are spending over the next two years on road repairs. This will help us make a start on addressing a very large backlog of repair work, but even this amount of investment is just one-tenth of what it will cost to bring the county's roads up to spec.'
This amount of work taking place across the county does inevitably lead to some disruption and TfB ask those affected to be patient with and respect our workers, results and benefits to residents and road users will be well worth it.
Some work is carried out overnight to reduce disruption to the network on the busier routes.
Notices to Frontages are sent to all properties affected by works, and advance warning boards are placed on site prior to commencement of any road repairs. This enables TfB to keep the public informed.
