Transport for Buckinghamshire bid - Smarter Business Travel Solutions
Transport for Buckinghamshire is pleased to confirm that on the 18th April we submitted a bid to the Department for Transport for “Smarter Business Travel Solutions”. TfB has made a bid for close to £5m for funding to support economic growth and reduce carbon emissions by working with businesses and the local communities across Buckinghamshire.
The project (SBTS) is made up of a package of sustainable transport initiatives that will reduce the negative impacts of commuter journeys on local communities and local businesses across Buckinghamshire. The SBTS therefore comprises a package of transformational sustainable travel initiatives that seek to;
- Reduce the number of commuter/business journeys within the county;
- Improve the competitiveness and productivity of local business, by helping them to reduce their costs and/or introduce process and/or organizational innovations which improve their ability to compete in the global market place;
- Stimulate increased economic growth in the Buckinghamshire economy;
- Reduce the negative impacts these journeys have on local communities (by, for example, reducing CO2 emissions, improving air quality etc); and
- Better enable residents to access known employment and educational opportunities that exist within the county.
SBTS will proactively engage, educate and challenge local businesses to implement a range of sustainable travel initiatives within their organisation, including;
- A package of business support, including healthy business initiatives; sustainable travel for work initiatives; and smarter working initiatives;
- Activities to encourage businesses to invest in supporting community improvements;
- Activities to enhance the sustainability of the travel and tourism sector in Buckinghamshire; and
- Activities to create increased access to employment opportunities (especially for those individuals that are economically inactive within the county).
Further details of the bid can be seen in the attached document. We hope to hear from the Department in June, and if successful, will look forward to delivering real progress in 2011/12-2014/15 (the life of the fund).
