Across Buckinghamshire the vast majority of street lights maintained by Transport for Buckinghamshire on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council have direct electricity supplies provided by a Distribution Network Operator.
Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) are companies licensed to distribute electricity in Great Britain by the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem).
There are fourteen licensed areas, based on the former Area Electricity Board boundaries, where the DNO distributes electricity from the transmission grid to homes and businesses.
In 1990, the Area Boards were replaced by Regional Electricity Companies (RECs), which were then privatised. The DNOs are the successors to the distribution arms of the RECs.
Within Buckinghamshire 3 DNOs operate across the county; Central Networks, UK Power Networks and Southern Electric Power Distribution. The following map provides details of the areas each DNO covers.

Since the 1 October 2010 new standards have been in place whereby each DNO has to meet performance levels set in conjunction with the industry and Ofgem. For further details of these new standards and the associated performance levels, please look under DNO Performance Standards.
Electricity Supply Transfers
In some instances where new street lights have been installed along side equipment that needs to be replaced, before the new equipment is operational the existing electricity supply needs to be transferred to the new street light. Once again to help improve communication and provide further details of electricity supplies that need to be transferred within each of the 3 DNO areas, the following tables have been created:
