Wycombe Railway Station

The proposed works at High Wycombe Railway station are part of Chiltern Railway's franchise commitment to the Department for Transport to improve passenger facilities at the station and to meet the increasing demand of people wishing to travel via High Wycombe station. The works both within the station and the highway works on the A404 Amersham Hill are being undertaken by Chiltern Railways.

The work to improve the station and surrounding area will involve the following:-

Construction of a multi storey car park
Provision of a Transport Interchange in front of the station building including 3 bus stops, a taxi rank with shelter, increased cycle parking, drop off area, 20 minute parking bays
The proposals will increase car parking by around 250 spaces as well as cycle parking being more than doubled from 34 to 74.
Improvements to the existing station building
Partial demolition of the listed goods shed and refurbishment of the goods shed

Improvements to the A404 at the following junctions:-

A404 Amersham Hill/Totteridge Road
A404/station entrance
A404/Castle Street/New station exit

All of the above works will mean that the way in which pedestrians, cyclists, buses, taxis and cars use the site will change. The long term layout is as shown below but during the construction of the works there will be a number of different phases involving changes to the layout and the way in which users acess and use the site.

Detailed traffic signal arrangement

Bus priority system for Totteridge Road

The works which will affect the highway are:-

A404 Amersham Hill/Totteridge Road

Some minor kerb alterations will take place at this junction. The junction will also be partially signalised to prioritise buses. This will be achieved through the use of bus detecting loops which will provide accurate information to the signal controller to prioritise buses on each of the 3 approaches based on traffic conditions at the time.
A404/station entrance

The layout of this junction will largely remain the same as it is now.

A404 Amersham Hill/Castle Street/New station exit

The existing A404/Castle Street junction will have an additional leg added to it which is the exit from the transport interchange.

The exit from the station will allow all vehicles to turn left or right but only buses and taxis will be able to go straight on into Castle Street.

Programme

The programme of works is:-

Grade 2 Listed Structure Early Sept to early Oct
Transport Interchange Works    Sept to Jan
Highway works on A404 Late Oct to late Nov
Multi storey car park Sep to Mar
