Street Parties

Street parties for the Diamond Jubilee in 2012

2012 will see the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 celebrations which we recognise are very special, once in a lifetime occasions and we want to help everyone celebrate. These Guidance Notes and the application form will help you organise your event.  It meets all the necessary requirements and leaves you free to enjoy the day!

What do I need to do to hold a street party?

The documents below set out what is required to hold a street party in Bucks, and how to go about applying for a temporary road closure (should one be required for your party).  There are also other useful documents on planning, safety advisory groups, public liability insurance etc.

We will also be offering a grant of £50 to cover public liability insurance for the first 100 events. To be eligible for this grant, organisers must:

  • not be a recognised body such as a Parish Council
  • apply for and buy the appropriate level of public liability insurance for their event
  • send a copy of their acceptance certificate (or other proof of purchase) to the 2012 Programme Team (address at bottom of email)

It should also be noted that if an application for a grant is more than £50, the organiser will have to meet the outstanding amount. If an application is for less than £50, only that amount will be paid and not the entire £50.

When can I hold my street party in 2012?

2012 will prove to be a very busy year in Buckinghamshire for street parties and events, especially as we are a host county for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Please ensure you apply early for your Street Event to avoid disappointment.  You can hold your London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic event on any day throughout 2012, including during the Games Period (note that restrictions will apply to some streets that may impact on the 2012 Rowing and Canoeing events at Eton Dorney).  A street party to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee can only be held on any one of the following dates: 26, 27 May, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 or 10 June.  In either case the event must clearly be to celebrate either the Diamond Jubilee or the Olympics..!

Further information is available from the County Council's Roadspace Management Team on 0845 2302882 or by email to streetparties@buckscc.gov.uk.  We are pleased to announce that BCC and the District Councils have waived the cost of road closures for any event celebrating the Diamond Jubilee or the London 2012 Games, however organisers must still apply to Transport for Bucks for the closure so we can be sure that the emergency services are aware of any changes to key routes.

Once you've arranged your event or street party, please add it to our calendar.  This lets everyone know about your event, and you can also see the other street parties that have been booked to avoid any clashes or competition!

Safety Advisory Groups

Street Party organisers are strongly advised to contact their district council as some events may need to be referred to the Safety Advisory Group (SAG). SAG provides guidance to organisers of public events and are formed, not to take over the planning of events, but to coordinate and focus the advice and intervention of the members of the group leading up to organised events. Members of the Safety Advisory Group include Thames Valley Police, Ambulance Services, Bucks Fire and Rescue Service, The District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council.

For more information about SAG please contact your District Council.
